Have you ever heard about the Danish way, to live life well or about why Danes are recognized as the happiest people in Europe according to the European Social Survey? The answer will be pretty short, but very meaningful. It is all about hygge. But how do you create hygge? How are hygge and happiness linked? And what is hygge exactly?
All the answers on these questions can be found in an amazing must-read book “The little book of HYGGE. The Danish way to live life well” written by Meik Wiking. Easy to read, to understand and to apply.

Hygge is an atmosphere of warm, well-being and coziness, when you feel at peace and able to enjoy simple pleasures and being in the moment...sounds very familiar:)
As a matter of fact, Hygge for Danes is not something that they apply time to time, it is their lifestyle including work, meetings with the family or friends, spending time alone, holidays, etc. Danes follow the five dimensions of this philosophy:
- They taste like hygge, and it means always familiar, sweet and comforting
- They sound like hygge. Any sound of a safe environment (person drawing, cooking or some peaceful playlist) will be soundtrack of hygge
- They smell like hygge. The smell that takes you back to a time and place where you felt safe? It can be wooden candles, fresh coffee or flowers
- They feel like hygge. Anything made by real craftsmanship - objects created out of wood, ceramics, wool and so on - is hyggeligt
- They see like hygge. It is dimmed, rustic and slow
At Orilabo we ourselves love to feel secure, cozy and content in our working space. So we took some hygge ideas and created our own hygge feeling. And we are happy to share it with you.
First and the most important element of our hygge office is our coffee machine. The Orilabo Team, without a doubt, are coffee lovers. And every time you come to work, or visit the office, you can not miss a tempting cup of coffee made by Yuki or Jan at our small cute coffee bar. It is all about hygge: the process, the smell, the taste, the feeling. As an addition, you can always find the freshly baked treats or sweets.
If the hygge is comforting, slow and familiar, then we made the right choice.

According to the book, every space should have a hyggekrog, the place where you love to relax, to breathe out and to have the moment with yourself or to talk with the friend. At Orilabo Office, our terrasse is a hyggekrog. And we can´t be happier about it. Our minimalistic terrasse is the place, where we take the breaks, share new ideas, have nice conversations or just slow down together:)
Orilabo Hyggekrog Recommendation: It could also be the working table or a small corner in the office with some pillows, blankets and scented candles
And at last, but not least, is our clothing. Orilabo pieces are 100 % hygge. Slow, cozy, timeless, encompassing the feeling of being safe, calm and above all, happiness. Clothing made by true craftsmen- and women. Check them out! :)
